Hi there,

I cannot figure out how A2DP profile could be executed on a host processor while an external audio codec (e.g. TLV320AIC3100) is connected to the CC256x through I2S port. In other words, the host processor is supposed to take care of A2DP profile by communicating with CC256x through HCI commends but it is not clear to me whether an external I2S audio codec could directly be connected to the I2S port of the CC256x in order to handle audio signals or the host processor itself should process the audio signals.

Hi Reza,

The I2S port in the CC256x is for HFP only. In the A2DP scenario, the I2S port in the host processor (e.g. Stellaris M3) would be the one connected to an external CODEC.

Hi Miguel,

Thanks for your reply. Suppose I am running HPF, can I directly connect the CC2560's I2S port to a codec?Thus, in this case is there any need for a host processor to handle the HPF profile through HCI commends? If not please let me know how HPF profile could be activated on CC2560.

Hi Reza,

Yes, your description is accurate. You need a host to run the BT stack (HFP) i.e. control path and also you need an external codec connected to the CC2560 I2S port for the data path (voice data).

Hi Miguel,

How is the voice routed to the I2S port in HFP? Is there an internal register in the CC2560 responsible for setting up audio path? I guess in this case the host processor through HFP profile would control the respective registers, right? Is MSP430 microcontroller powerful enough to support HFP profile?

Hi Reza,

You just need to configure the CC256x PCM/I2S interface to match your codec settings using VS HCI commands (http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/CC256x_VS_HCI_Commands). The profile will take care of activating/deactivating the path depending on the connection. Yes, the MSP430 can handle HFP. Note that we don't have the HFP available in our std package currently but SSO can provid it to you directly.
