I'm curious what the correct naming convention is for Bluetooth Low Energy. If you were developing a product using the CC2540/1, which would be the marketing terms used?
- Bluetooth Low Energy
- Bluetooth 4.0
- BLE
- Bluetooth Smart

Bluetooth Low Energy or BLE is the most common
Bluetooth 4.0 is the version which introduced BLE to the Bluetooth Standard. The older versions do not have the BLE capability.
Bluetooth Smart is the new marketing term being used.
Either way, you should be good with Bluetooth Low Energy or BLE
I haven't seen apple switch to the Bluetooth Smart Ready (or even just Bluetooth Smart) naming yet. I believe they are still going with Low Energy, or maybe even just Bluetooth 4.0.
I suppose in a marketing sense, Bluetooth Low Energy or Bluetooth Smart is the way to go.
The Bluetooth SIG (bluetooth.org) has a brand book which spells out in great detail what terms to use to describe Bluetooth products. The book also states:
When using the Bluetooth brand and its elements, licensees are obliged
to follow the rules and guidelines presented in this book, as stated in the
license agreement.
