Using TPS62730 with CC2541 on a device designed to stay at Power Mode 2 (PM2)

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS62730, CC2541

Hello,

I am working on a device which will get regular reading from a peripheral and then transmit it through BLE. In my design I want the trransmitter to stay in PM2 and whenever wake up, get the latest reading and transmit it.

Should I add TPS62730 to my design? If I understand correctly it consumes 30nA while the CC2541 with latency of 1 second would probably consume <10nA so an improvement of 20-30% will still be less then the consumption of the TPS62730 itself.

I would appreciate any help and insight!

Thanks

  • I think you have it a little confused here. The PM2 sleep current of the device is 1uA. While the sleep current of the TPS62730 is 30nA. Therefore the total peak current when the CC2541 is in PM2 and the TPS62730 in bypass mode would be 1.030uA. Your average current will be based on 1.030uA number, as being your sleep mode peak current.

The TPS62730 will improve the battery life by up to 20-30% depending upon your application.
