DOES FIRMWARE NEED FOR CC2541 BLUETOOTH CHIP

The CC2541 is SoC therefore you need to program it first. When you program the radio you can use some interface of your choice to communicate between your Atmel MCU and CC2541 core. TI provide Bluetooth stack: http://www.ti.com/tool/ble-stack. Obviously there is no code for Atmel device.

Anyway you need IAR compiler and some coding. There is no fast and easy way.

No, because you can read about it yourself using the link I provided. If you do not have IAR you should forget about the project.

The BLE Stack is the firmware that in loaded into the CC2541 that allow it to communicate with other Bluetooth v4.0 Bluetooth Low Energy devices such as iPhone, Motorola, Blackberry BB10, etc

You can purchase the CC2541MINI-DK and program it using the IAR compiler.  There is a 30 day free trial that will allow you to test drive the device.

Communicate with it and the ATMEL can be done using the UART, SPI.  Depending on your application, you may be able to eliminate the ATMEL since it contains a high performance 8051 core.

There is a steep learning curve, but there are example projects that can be modified to suit your requirements.

Yes you will be able to communicate with the ATMEL using the SPI or UART.  At the present time, IAR is the only IDE that can be used to program the CC254x chips. There is an example in the BLEwiki for using the UART.

You can search the forum for some of the issues others have had when trying to do so.

IAR will program most controllers.  For each controller you will have to purchase a different module.  So if your ATMEL and STM are both 8051 based, then you will be able to use the 8051 Module and program them as well as the CC254x MCU.

You will have to check with IAR website for their pricing and package details.

thank you .  By using cc2541 development kit only i can  update my firmware into that chip ah or using atmel DEBUGG  i can update my chip

If you still want to use CC2541 you need: CC debugger & IAR 8051 compiler. (http://www.iar.com/Products/IAR-Embedded-Workbench/8051/, http://www.ti.com/tool/cc-debugger) besides the tools you have for (Atmel ARM/AVR/8051 you never specified what MCU you want to use).

You will need to write software yourself using libraries provided by TI. Not an easy task for beginner.

If you are using ATmega I think that the project is too big for you. If you really need to use BLE, get some modules with simple interface and support.

You can go with the CC2564 which is a dual mode Bluetooth chip.  It interfaces with a MCU using UART.  The firmware is supported by the MSP430 and Stellaris MCU.  You can check the CC2564 product page by clicking on the highlight link.

The CC2564 does not require any gov't approval.  It is compliant with all gov't regulations.  Unless you are trying to boost the signal beyond the legal limit, you will have no problems. 

Another option would be the LMX9828 which is a serial Bluetooth device.  You will have to search the web to see if anyone has implemented this solution with an iOS device because it is Bluetooth 2.0.

Depending on you budget, you can purchase either the CC2541MINI-DK or the SmartRF05.  You can look up the details of both on the product information page.

I have the CC2540MINI-Dk.  It comes with the keyfob, USB dongle and CCDebuger.  It came ready to use right out of the box.

I highly recommend you do the following before your kit arrives:

1. Download the BLE v1.3 software and start familiarizing yourself with it.  You can use any C programming IDE to view the files, you just won't be able to compile it.  You may as well wait until you actually have the device to download the 30day trial of the IAR software. 

2.  Download and read the information in the Bluetooth Quick Start Kit.  It will make things a little easier to understand. 

3.  Read the documents found in the file for HAL and OSAL

4.  Download all the material you can find about BLE and the CC2540, including tutorials and workshops.

5. Search the forum and the web for any questions you might have.  There is a very good possibility that someone has already encountered the same problem you have.

If you do all the above, you will have a much easier time programming the device.

One of the possible reasons would be they could not come to some kind of financial agreement.

Another could be the fact that the library files used for the BLE Stack were safer on this IDE and less susceptible to pirating.

I haven't come across a definitive answer, so it is all speculation at this point.

No, the device does not contain a built in antenna.  To my knowledge, none of the chips from TI do.

For the layout we recommend to follow the reference designs (also found on the product pages) closely.
