NV persistance across OAD firmware update works, but why?

Hello,

I've got an OAD implementation up and working on a cc2540 (ble stack 1.3).  I was surprised to see the user data stored in NV memory persisted across updates.

Does anyone know why?  Is there a memory bank reserved for NVIDs in the application range?  I've had a quick peek at the .map file, but didn't see anything.

This leads me to also wonder how much NV storage I can use before running into issues.  Any insights appreciated!
