Hi,

I would like to build my application on CC2541 and if I choose to develop my application on the CC2541EM boards, I will also need to buy the CC2540DK,

which comes with 2 of SmartRF05EB, which is the baseboard onto which the CC2541EM (daughter) boards sit

I read that I will need "SOC-BB board" for stand alone operation of each CC2541EM board. The SOC-BB board has 2xAA battery holders that power the CC2541EM board sitting on it. Please see link below:

According to the photo above, there is also a debug port on the SOC-BB boards that can be used for debugging and flashing code on to the CC2541EM board. Is this correct? If that is the case, I do not need to buy the expensive CC2540DK product to do my code development and debugging. Is this correct?

Do I need any other hardware to get the CC2541EM boards to work stand alone?

Also, all that applies to CC2541EM boards also applies to the CC2540EM boards I presume. Can you please comment?

Cryptoman,

You will need a CC Debugger with the SoC-BB. If you have that combination, you will not need the CC2540DK (more specifically, the SmartRF05EB). This combo should allow you to debug and flash any CC254x chip.

See the attached picture for what a SoC-BB + CC Debugger setup looks like

Hi Fredrik,

I checked out the swru241 document for the SoC BB board and there is no mention of CC2541 port pin mapping. However, i guess that P1 and P2 of CC2541EM board are mapped to P10 and P11 header on SoC BB board. is it the case? I want to interface SD card with CC2541 and want to debug it while developing application. Can I achieve my goal with CCdebugger + SoC BB + CC2541EM + sd card breakout board ?

Hi,

You can see the CC2541EM schematic here www.ti.com/.../cc2541em-rd Documents

This will show you which pins on the 2541 are connected to those on the BB. From there you can configure these pins to do what you need (i.e. SD)

On the battery board, all the GPIOs are clearly labeled in silk print on P10 and P11.

Hi,

I exactly followed the Chato's setup shown in the photo, But CC debugger's LED is not going green. When I connect to Keyfob it shows green. I already have updated the Firmware on debugger. I have checked the cable also. I tried with another cable also and same problem. The alkaline battery i'm using gives me around 3.6 V.

Can I power the SoC-BB + CC2541EMK setup via debugger, or I have to use the alkaline batteries? Any suggestions?

The SoC-BB cannot be powered from the debugger, you must use batteries. Are you sure the cable is connected the right way on both sides?
