cc2540 usb dongle not lighting up

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2540

Hi, I plugged my cc2540 mini dk usb dongle into pc and it doens't light up anymore. I think it got like this after I plug the cc debugger ribbon cable onto the usb dongle's debug pins backwards. Could this have fried a chip? Is this fixable? Thank you and please offer advise urgently!

  • I do not think you have destroyed your doungle :)

    Perhaps it is only unprogrammed.

As far as I remember, plug the ribbon cable with the red line next to the "1" in the board and flash something to it! Can you do it?

Another test you can do is to plug the dongle in other USB port, my computer have some of them which are not connected to anything :)

    Let me know!

  • My ribbon cable does not have a red line marking pin 1, so I must have plugged it into the usb dongle debug pins backwards. Dongle does not light up anymore when I plug it into any usb receptacle on my laptop with ble driver. Even when I plug it into a clean laptop with no driver dongle doesn't light up and windows does not pop up the new hardware found dialog. It's either dead or the it needs to be reflashed. If it's dead TI really should be a big warning label on it to warn us not to plug in the cc debugger ribbon cable backwards because it will fry your usb dongle!!! If it only needs to be reflashed, how do I do that? neither cc debugger, smartrf programmer, windows can see the dongle much less attempt to communicate with it.. Please help, I need to hand in my project, I might have to shell out another $50 to get this dongle from digikey if it's declared dead! However, I'm quite dissappointed how fragile this thing is.

    Thanks and Regards.
