HostTestRelease project only with CC2540EM board(without SmartRF05).

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F5529, CC2540

Hi,

I am new for BluetoothLE(bluetooth as well). I am sorry if i am asking some very basic/non sense questions

1. Is it possible use HostTestRelease project  only with CC2540EM board(without SmartRF05).

2. Can we flash CC2540EM with CC debugger

3. Can we communicate with CC250EM from MSP430F5529 Experiment board via UART.

  • 1. You will need to flash it onto the CC2540EM either with the SmartRF05EB or the CC Debugger

    2. Yes

    3. Yes, you can control CC2540 from any external MCU by BLE HCI (Host Control Interface). You can refer to TI_BLE_Vendor_Specific_HCI_Guide.pdf under \BLE-CC254x-1.3.2\Documents if you install TI BLE stack 1.3.2.

  • Dear Chatto,

Thank you very much for your response.

I have one more query regarding HostTestRelease Network Processor Project.

In CC254x with an external MCU (http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/CC254X_WITH_EXT_MCU)  wiki page, it's mentioned that IAR is not required for network processor configuration.

Do you guys are saying to flash HostTestRelease Network Processor Project image on CC254X???

If Yes, I have a question

The Size of  HostTestRelease Network Processor Project  hex file is 412KB , Where as maximum available flash on CC2540 Devices is 256KB.

    If Not,

Please suggest the Image file need to be flashed into CC2540 to work with out IAR Embedded work bench.

    Thanks,

    Naveen

  • Hi Naveen,

Each raw binary byte will take up two bytes in a hex-file. Each 16th byte will also incur an overhead of 11 bytes in the hex file. The hex file is just a set of instructions to a programmer.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_HEX

You can flash the file found in the stack installer directory/Accessories/Hexfiles/CC254x_xx_HostTest_All.hex

The ones where xxx is SmartRf will attempt to use the LCD display connected to the SmartRF05 evaluation board, and will use UART0 Alt 1 for communication.

To customise this image, you would need IAR.

    Best regards,
    Aslak

  • Thank you very much Aslak

sorry to you for asking such a simple question. :)

    will keep posting my queries!!

  • Hi,

why after programming the CC2540_USBdongle_HostTestRelease_All.hex into a 256kBytes flash cc2540 with no error messages coming from Smart Flash Programmer I cannot verify against hex file later?

I can do that for all other smaller hex files but cannot for CC2540_USBdongle_HostTestRelease_All.hex.

I get error ID8787: Error in HEX file verification just about starting the verification.

After plugging in the dongle, under windows 7, I cannot get the dongle under cebal controlled devices in the device manager window. I am assuming is because what was programmed into the flash is wrong.

    Best regards,
