PAN1721 not recognized under Windows 7 / Ubuntu 12.04

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2541, CC2540

HI guys,

This is my first time posting so if I have any violations/error please excuse me, I will try to be more careful next time.

Recently I've bought two PAN1721 evaluation boards that are based on the CC2541 SoC. The guys from Panasonic have told me that the boards should behave like the CC2540 TI USB dongles (these boards are also USB dongles). The SoC is recognized only by the CC Debuger I I am able to flash them using the provided .hex files from Panasonic (TI BLE stack) with the SmartRF Flash Programmer but the PC [tried on Windows and Ubuntu] cannot recognize the USB dongle without a CC Debuger (after flashing). I have tried to flash an image (HostTest) from the TI BLE stack but I've got the same results. The modules are sold without any software in them so you have to manually flash. The BLE images provided from Panasonic are based on the TI BLE Alpha2 stack, but I have tried with images from 1.3 & 1.4 stack.

Does anyone here has experience with these modules or knows how to help. Thanks in advance with your answers if there are any.

Bojan

I believe that the PAN1721 dongle would require external USB hardware, as its CC2541 has an I2C interface instead of the CC2450 native USB interface. Therefore none of the standard CC2540 USB driver, dongle code would work on it. The PAN 1720, however is very easy to configure as a USB dongle.

  • Thanks for the info ayemk. I compared the datasheets for CC2540 & CC2541 and it turns out that you are correct but I cannot understand why Panasonic will put an USB connection on this SoC and sell it with a USB driver for the CC2540 SoC.
