I have to get access to the 8051 core through the debug interface of the CC2541 in order to program the flash memory (upload and execute my own code on tzhe device).

Where can I find the respective documentation about the 2-wire debug interface (debug clock & data) and the required commands to program (erase/program/verify) the flash memory.

Thanks for this hint, but I cannot use the CC debugger.

I have to use our own programming tool. Therefore I need to know how to send and receive the data over the two-wire debug interface and which commands are available to upload code to the 8051 core and execute it.

May be I can use a already existing flash library in order to erase/program/verify the flash memory?

Or do I have to develop my own flash routines?

AN118 (http://www.ti.com/litv/pdf/swra410) contains an example for flash programming from an external microcontroller. You should be able to use this as a basis for your development.

Hello,

I have now connected my programmer to DD, DC and RESET_N. The signaling is similar to what described

in the documents. Aftre releasing the RESET I try to read the device ID but the CC2541 does not respond, the DD line stays always high. As in the example code I'm clocking up to 16 times 8-clock groups - but the DD line never goes low. The timings (setup, hold) are checked and are set to uncritical values. I send two negative clock edges while the RESET_N is low.

What can prevent the device fro entering the debug mode?

Hi Harald,

I understand that you need to work with your own programming tool, but do you have access to a CCDebugger just to check if that works? This would tell us if the problem is on the chip- or the programmer-side.

What CC2541 hardware are you working on?

Hi Frederik,

I have a customer board with a CC2541Q1F256. The debug signals are routed to a debug connector. The customer has already prorammed the device thrugh this interface - may be with CCDebugger, but I don't know.
At the respective pins I made the connection to my programmer. I also verified the signal levels at the MCU pins RESET_N, P2_1 (TDI), P2_2 (TCK). I also verified the Vcc voltage - its 3.3V.

Do you have any idea what can go wrong here?

Hi Harald,

The figure doesn't say, but try to make sure you transition RESET_N high-to-low not too long before clocking two negative flanks on debug clock. If you hold RESET_N low for too long before clocking the two flanks, you may not enter debug mode.
