Hello.

I have a custom made PCB and I must solder the components by hand.

The main problem it is to solder cc2540.

This component has only a ground pad and this is very annoying since it is hard to solder.

My question is.

Pin 1, digital ground to USB, is also connected to the ground in this PCB.

Is it possible to CC2540 to work only with pin 1 solder to the ground?

Or I must solder also the ground pad to work properly?

Hello,

It is true pin 1 is shorted internally to the ground pad so you may be able to achieve some basic digital functionality without the ground pad connected, however the internal circuits rely on a very good ground and without it the RF performance will likely be very poor. Thus to achieve expected performance the ground pad must be connected.
