CC256x deep sleep description

Hi-

I'm trying to figure out what functionality changes in the CC256x deep sleep mode. The datasheet says the current consumption drops from 4mA to 40uA. The wiki explains how to go into and out of deep sleep mode. Neither of them say which subsystems are powered off (or clock speeds reduced, etc...) in order to achieve the power savings, though. Any explanation you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

As a separate but related issue, there's a mention on the wiki (http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/CC256x_VS_HCI_Commands) of "big sleep." That's the only reference I can find to that phrase in any documentation. Can you please explain what the difference between deep sleep and big sleep is?

However, the CC256x falls under the Bluetooth Applications forum http://e2e.ti.com/support/low_power_rf/f/660.aspx. Visit that forum and do a search for sleep modes for the divice. You should be able to find what you are looking for there.

Hi Sundeep-

Thank you for clearing up the big sleep confusion.

I've looked at the wiki page you linked, and while it provides a description of how to enter/exit deep sleep mode, there's no description of what deep sleep is.

In fact, the link that was provided by greenja above shows confusion about this as far back as 2012. The original poster asked in that post:
"I can't find info about what deep-sleep mode is about."
"Do you know the practical difference between deep-sleep and shut-down?"

The responses from the two TI employees indicate they weren't familiar with the CC256x. Can you please provide a description of which capabilities are shut off in deep sleep mode?

Hi,

In shutdown case ever thing is going down. when you are turning on you need to make sure that the VBAT,VIO,SCLK,BT_enables(nSHUTDOWN ). see http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/CC256x_Testing_Guide

Where as in the sleep mode VBAT,VIO,SCLK,BT_enables must be kept. The UART clock can be shut off.
