CC2540 Documentation -- missing pieces?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2540

Hello,

I, and others from the looks of it, have missed some crucial information when developing hardware to support the CC254x.  Examples: VDD_USB must share a power source with other VDD inputs when USB is in use.  An external RC network is required for D+ and D-.

My hw designer and I have used the following:

  • CC2540 Data Sheet (SWRS084F)
  • CC253x and CC254x SoC User's Guide (SWRU191E)
  • The application notes listed here.

Neither of these two sources resolve the issues mentioned above.  Are we missing some crucial piece of documentation?  The forums are a great resource, of course.  The keyfob, sensortag, and dongle reference designs are valuable, but it is often uncomfortable just copying a design without knowing why it was done the way it was.

I am now concerned about what else we might have missed.  What next will jump up and bite me?

Am I missing other 2540 related documents?

Steve

  • Hi Steve,

Thanks for the post, i'll make sure to forward the information to our technical writers.

The reference designs should be regarded as important "documents", as those are the basis of all our certification and calibration. Other than that, if you are missing some key information, let us know and we'll try to answer you the best we can.

    Best Regards

    Joakim

  • Hello Joakim,

I didn't mean this to be a complaint.  The CC2540 documentation is frankly not the best I've ever used, but believe me it is better than most and SO much better than the worst!

The reference designs are really, really nice to have.  My only difficulty is that without supporting documentation it can be difficult to know what is critical as is and what can be changed to suit particular needs.

Thanks for the reply.  Sounds like I have everything available.

    Steve
