Dear Community,

I am wishing to combing the cc2540 dongle with a ti launchpad. I am wishing to have the launchpad and cc2540 be able to communicate over UART. I have easily achieved this with the Bluetooth module hc-05, and wish to do it now with the cc2540. In my set-up I am using an USB to UART converter between the dongle and launchpad, however all communications seem to be failing. Is this set-up possible, if not, how can one connect the cc2540 to the TI launchpad.

Hello Matt,

That looks like an interesting way of doing things. I assume that you are using the Tiva LaunchPad connected to the USBOTG since the USB Dongle cannot act as a host controller.

Another option would be to connect the USB dongle UART directly to the Launchpad UART and skip the USB RS232 conversion entirely. The UART on the CC2540 are accessible via the port pins (holes) on the dongle. You can find the printouts in the schematics. http://www.ti.com/tool/cc2540usb-rd

Then you can use the SerialApp to communicate via the UART. http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/File:SerialApp2.zip

Hello Matt,

I think I may have misinterpreted your original setup. The HC-05 is a Bluetooth to Serial module. I was thinking that it was USB and you were trying to go from USB on the Tiva to USB->RS232->USB on the CC2540.

It would be interesting to see if you could go from USBOTG on the Tiva to USB on the CC2540. To do this you would have to load the USB Dongle with the HostTestRelease.hex and send HCI Commands or a modified version that would allow you to send non HCI Commands to test it.

Ive decided that since i have much more familiarity with the Serial Module and AT commands that i just ordered a cc2541 with a serial module (hm-10). Thank you for your help.
