We're planning on initially developing a prototype on CC2541 and switching to CC2540 closer to the final product.

How compatible are these SoCs?

Hi Andrey,

This devices are quite identical. There are some differences in the radios, but this should be taken care of by the BLE stack. There is also the obvious difference with USB / I2C.
