Connecting CC2540 USB Dongle with CC Debugger

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2540, CC2541, BLE-STACK

I have bought a CC2540 USB Dongle and a CC Debugger and have received two ribbon wires with it; one having large pins and one having smaller pins. Also I have received a USB data cable. My basic requirement is to connect my CC2541 Sensor tag with my laptop. I had read that to do so I need to flash the USB Dongle with the CC Debugger. But I am not able to connect the USB Dongle with the CC Debugger. How can I connect them?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

  • Hello Jasmine,

Start by viewing the following training documents.  On page 62 of the first one you will see how to connect up the CCDebugger.http://e2e.ti.com/support/wireless_connectivity/m/videos__files/653593/download.aspx

    https://www.bluetooth.org/zh-cn/Documents/L2_Bluetooth_Low_Energy_Technical_Deep_Dive_GREG.PDF

There are also documents in the BLE folder of the BLE-stack.

Connecting to the SensorTag for programming and connecting for using tools like BTool to Device Monitor are two different things.  To connect for programming you use the CCDebugger.  To connect for using the tools to observe Packet traffic you will load the USB Dongle with Packet Sniffer.  To use BTool or Device Monitor you will use the HostTestRelease.hex files.

These are outlined in the documents that get installed when you install the BLE-stack.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Greenja,

Thanks for your reply. Actually I am working on a project in which I need to attach the sensor tag with the foot of the person and analyze the readings. Till now I was taking readings on the I-phone (4S). But now I need to take readings on my laptop. For doing this I read on the site that I would need a USB Dongle. After I bought a Dongle I tried connecting the Sensor tag with my laptop but all in vain. Then on these forums I came to know that I need to flash the USB Dongle so that it works. So I bought a CC Debugger for doing so. Now I am trying to connect the Dongle with the Debugger in order to flash it. I am taking help of the following pdf:

    http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/swru270c/swru270c.pdf

In this pdf in figure 45 a red chip has been shown that helps in the connection of USB dongle and CC Debugger. I have not received any such chip. Then how shall I connect them? Please help!!

  • Hello Jasmine,

That red chip is actually an adapter board for going from a 0.1" (2.54mm) to a 0.05" (1.27mm) connector.  You will have to contact the TI eStore help desk and inform them of the missing item.  There should also have been two cables in the box.  One with two 10 pin 2.54mm end connectors and one with two 10 pin 1.27mm connectors.

There is not much you can do unless you have both cables.  Then you could have at least removed the ends and twisted them together as a temporary measure until a new CCDebugger arrives.

    Thanks,
