Internal or external clock signal for CC2564MODN

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2564MODN, CC2564MODNEM

Hi all,

We have the CC2564MODN bluetooth module and I am a bit confused about the clocks. Page 2 of the datasheet shows a block diagram of the module where the module contains a 38.4 MHz XTAL. When I read section 4.7.1.2 (Power Supply Sequencing) it says the following about SLOW_CLK_IN:

The slow clock must be stable within 2 ms of nSHUTD going high.

A bit further in the same manual is stated the module can be used in master mode and provide a clock signal to external devices:

For master mode, the module can generate any clock frequency between 64 kHz and 4.096 MHz.

It looks to me the CC2564MODN has an internal clock signal and thus does not need an external clock signal to function. Am I correct or does the CC2564MODN need an external clock to function? If so could you explain the use of the internal 38.4 MHz XTAL?

Thanks in advance for the responses!
