Error in design CC2541 +cc2590?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2590, CC2541

Best regards.

I am trying to use a cc2590 to amplify the reach of a Bluetooth module... I am using keyfobemo software. In addition to adding the macro HCI_EXT_ExtendRFRangeCmd. Themodule if it is transmitted but not amplified in no signal. Does anyone see any error in mydesign? Does anyone have any idea that might be?
  • Hi Ramon,
A quick look at the schematics doesn't reveal any issues. Did you follow the reference design here?
    http://www.ti.com/tool/cc2541-cc2590em-rd

You also have to enable range extension in the BLE stack to get the control signals to behave correctly. Can you verify that with a logic analyzer or scope?

  • I am using the SimpleBLEPeripheral project.. .and the function HCI_EXT_ExtendRfRangeCmd (); addition Annex a picture of the board for possible recommendations... that signals should see in signal Analyzer?

  • Hello Ramon,
    What about the ground planes?
Do you only have a single via under the CC2541 chip?
    Ground copper on layer 1?
How many layers is the PCB?
  • Hi Ramon,

When using the CC2590 range extender correct layout is critical. You should follow the component placement and layout in the reference design.

As Eirik points out ground plane is very important. The CC2541 should have multiple ground vias, so should also the CC2590. There must be a solid and uinterrupted ground plane on the bottom layer connecting all the RF components and the RF chips together. Each RF component with a ground connection should have multiple ground vias close to its ground pad. Same for the antenna. Signal traces underneath the RF path is a big no-no.

    Cheers,
    Fredrik
  • Thank you for reply and help me

This is the design showing the ground planes on both sides of the pcb

only I have a via underneath the chip cc2541 and none under cc2590...It can affect.?

    Best regards
  • Hi Ramon,

It most definitely can, in a negative way. In general all your ground connections are really poor.

See mu previous comments and see how it is done in the reference design.

  • Thanks a lot.

I will make a new design by adding reviews and proved that I go with that. Thank you friends

    Best regards.
