can i upload a new firmware to CC2541 with windows7 or android ?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2541, BLE-STACK, CC2540

Hi all,

sorry if is a stupid question, i'm newbie and not a developer so maybe i wrong something....

just bought a cc2541 sensor (without usb dongle). I wanna use it with my android s4 to simple monitor some data sometimes, the sensor will be put in remote site so unable to push lateral side for pair with smartphone.

I find some modified firmware in internet to have this working, but i need to change the stock firmware on cc2541 board.

Unable to do with android, when open the page "firmware update" the app turn to initial screen and text "sensortag disconnected" appear.

Tried with my Windows 7 pc and a recent Bluetooth LE dongle (non ti) but "BLE device monitor" seem unable to work, or better i think is Windows unable to pair/load driver (user passkey 000000) correctly, don't know but green led stop flashing after few second and Windows search for driver without succes....

There is a way to have this board working without the dedicated TI dongle or without need to buy and iphone?

Thanks

Marco

  • Hi Marco,

We have seen some issues with Android and OAD updates. We are working on a brand new Android to address this which should be available by the end of this month. Regarding the device monitor, I believe it's needs to interface with a CC2540 USB Dongle with a BLE-Stack firmware; This is described on this wiki.

    Best Regards

  • Thanks Joakim,

i'll search for a recent iphone/ipad from some friends, difficult because need also thei pc to upload new firmware.... or waiting for a wirking android app.

Is a displeasure for the need of usb dongle, maybe i'm not your target people but buy sensor and dongle for use 1 time is not convenient. Why this constriction? seem not so diffiicult use standard bluetooth serial emulation.

    thanks
