What do I need to run an application on the CC2650EMK as a stand-alone module?

CC2650EMK, XDS100-V3 debugger and batteries for the two modules are enough?

What does internal bias or external bias mean? (one difference between CC2650EMK-4XS and CC2650EMK-7ID)

Hi Marco,

The EMs can only be used with the SmartRF06EB included in the CC2650DK.

External and internal bias are different HW configurations for the radio. This presentation explains the difference: processors.wiki.ti.com/.../CC26xx_HW_training_RF_Frontends_and_Antennas.pdf

Thanks for the presentation! I've seen the SmartRF06EB and the development kit but I think it is unnecessary for me. It will be the easy and expensive way.

Can a XDS100v3 standalone (from 3rd party manufacturers) substitute the SmartRF06EB?

Is it possible to power the evaluation modules with batteries instead of using the debugger?

1. Yes, you can buy a standalone XDS100V3. For example, www.olimex.com/.../TMS320-XDS100-V3
2. Yes, it is possible to power EMK with battery.

Hi Chen,
Thanks for the answer! I'm a newbie in BLE technology and I'm looking for the lower cost solution to have two standalone battery powered devices communicating each other. The application is not really important for me, since I just want to test the wireless communication (bit error rate) in a harsh environment. Before buying anything I would like to be sure of what I need.

I'm attracted to the CC2650 because it is multistandard capable but it is very difficult to know how much flexibility I have in programming it. Is it possible to disable the frequency hopping and establishing a communication in one single channel?

Yes. You can use SMARTRF STUDIO 7 to test PER on a fix channel.

The EM boards does not have a readily available JTAG- or power header, they only have connectors for the SmartRF board. It is technically possible to use them as standalone boards, but it will require a bit of hacking.

I would much rather recommend to get the SensorTag kit and the low cost XDS110 dbeugger:
