It states in the TI Software developers guide that the TI v.1.4 Stack was developed and tested with IAR Compiler v.8.20.2 and therefore later versions of the Compiler 'can not be guaranteed' to be error free or stable and therefore it is highly recommended that application developers stick to 8.20.2
Unfortunately (and understandably) TI can not give any reassurances if application development is carried out with more recent versions of the Compiler for CC2540 BLE applications. Likewise, and probably for the same reason, IAR say they do not recommend developers upgrade their Compiler which is now at version 9.x (with a lot of bugs removed and improvements made to it since v8.20)...
Having returned to v.8.20.2 I have been experiencing some instabilities, particularly when Debugging my code. Moving to IAR v.8.3 had resulted in a degree of stability in my code, however by doing so I seem to have gone out of orbit in terms of general support that I consult the forum in relation to my code, none of my queries so far have actually been down to this mismatch of stack and compiler...
Both IAR and TI point out that I have the 'wrong' compiler, even though my application is generally stable and from my experience Stack v.1.4 with v.8.3 Compiler seems like they work well together.
I'm just just wondering if anyone else has been using the IAR IDE v.8.3 Compiler to develop applications for the CC2540 based on the v.1.4 TI BLE Stack? If so, do you also find that these two work pretty well together or have you come across any fundamental issues with the 8.3 Compiler??
