TI CC2540 : COM port not detected

I am using a TI CC2540 Bluetooth Low Energy Evaluation modules using TI SmartRF05EB. I am trying to connect the board to a PC (Windows 7/ Enterprise 32-bit) via a serial (DB-9) cable.

The problem I am facing is that there is no COM port being detected on the device manager.

Although I am getting "SmartRF05EB" under "Cebal controled devices" section on the device manager, there is no COM port being detected under "Ports(COM&LPT)" section and hence I am unable to use BTool.

Can anyone suggest the solution to this?

For the record, I have already flashed "CC2540_SmartRF_HostTestRelease_All.hex" file on my CC2540 evaluation module using SmartRF Flash Programmer.

If you connect PC RS-232 port to the RS-232 port on SmartRF05EB, it won't be detected by device manager. You should possibly choose COM1 and try to open Btool to detect it.

FYI we generally do this with a USB-to-RS232 cable, something like this:

Hey Tim,
I used one such USB-to-serial adapter for connection. But still no change was observed in the device manager. Now, what shall be done?

In that case, you probably have a driver issue and need to find the appropriate driver for your cable. This is the driver I'm using. Yours may be different however:

Why is necessary to add another USB-to-RS232 path from PC to SmartRF05 when the SmartRF05 contains a CC2511F32 with USB and serial/UART connected to PC and CC2540 (EM) already? Ought not the CC2511F32 driver present a "COM" on the PC?

CC2511F32 is not connect to UART port on CC2540. It is for debugger.
