Hello,

I have recently purchased a CC2540-MINIDK. On the first day, both the devices (keyfob and dongle) were working fine. I could debug both of them using the CCDebugger that was available in the kit. But now, although the keyfob is working fine, the USB dongle is not even getting powered when I am connecting to the USB port of my PC or laptop.

When I connect the dongle to a USB port, the red and green LEDs flash for an instance but then immediately go off. And, of course, the dongle is not getting detected on the PC.

Can anyone give the reason behind this, or suggest some remedy so that I can rectify this and carry on with my work?

Since the LEDs are flashing the CC2540 is getting power, and it is doing something. I guess the problem is related to the SW running on the chip. I would recommend reloading the original SW included in the BLE Stack.

Hi Fredrik,

The problem is that the LED glows just for a fraction of second and then goes off. And, the USB dongle neither gets detected on the PC. So how can I reload the original software on the dongle? Any solution to that?

You can download CC2540_USBdongle_HostTestRelease_All.hex in C:\Texas Instruments\BLE-CC254x-1.4.0\Accessories\HexFiles (you have to install BLE stack 1.4.0 to see this folder) to CC2540 USB dongle. You can refer to Figure 44 CC2540 USB Dongle and Figure 45 CC2540 USB Dongle Connected to CC Debugger in CC2540 and CC2541 Mini Development Kit User's Guide in which it shows you how to connect CC debugger to dongle.

Hi YiKai,

I have tried doing that using Flash Programmer but there is no device displayed in the "list of connected devices" of the Flash Programmer. So, when I try to select "Erase, progaram and verify" and click on "Perform actions" button, an error message showing "no device selected" gets displayed. All the connections made are similar to the ones shown in the User's guide. What can be done now?

After you connect CC debugger with your usb dongle and press the button on CC debugger, do you see green light on CC debugger? If not, please check
1. Do you give power to USB dongle properly? For example, plug it into PC usb socket.
2. Do you connect cable between USB dongle and CC debugger correclty?

Hi,

No, even on pressing the reset button on the CC debugger, no green light glows. It still remains red.
And, I have checked both the points to be consistent with the diagrams shown in the user's guide provided by TI.
Any other way out?

Form the pictures, I don't see you give power to USB dongle. Please plug USB dongle to PC USB socket (PC has to be turned on) and try it.

Hi,

I was trying by plugging the USB in one of my PC's USB port only. I took it it out just to click clearer pictures. Is there anything wrong with the way the debugger and dongle are connected together?

It seems that the cable between CC2540 USB dongle and CC Debugger is reversed. Please reverse it and try again.
