Texas Instruments is pleased to announce the immediate availability of the BLE-Stack 1.4.1 release for TI's CC2540/CC2541 Bluetooth low energy MCUs.

BLE-Stack 1.4.1 is a maintenance release and provides most updated and robust Bluetooth 4.0 SW stack for CC2540 and CC2541 devices. It is strongly recommended that all ongoing and new development projects update to BLE-Stack 1.4.1 release.

Hi JXS,

As mentioned in Release Note, "All projects have been migrated from IAR v8.20.2 to IAR 9.10.3. In order tobuild all projects, be sure to upgrade to IAR v9.10.3.". So what about the users who are using older version of IAR? Can they still migrate their project to use latest BLE Stack?

Hello Dhaval,

Compatibility testing of v1.4.1 example projects was not done with the older IAR version used by v1.4.0. It is TI's policy to use the latest version of IAR at the time of development. The only change that I'm aware of related to IAR is to the linker file - this is well documented on E2E. It's likely that the SDK may still build with 8.20.2, but this configuration was not tested. Note that your paid support with IAR entitles you to the latest or any back-catalog version of their 8051 IDE.

Hi everyone, I`m very happy for this release... so I need to know: the read problem of RSSI was resolved?

" Hello. Yes, this is a current bug. The RSSI is only updated (at the application callback) after a data packet is received. Please this thread: e2e.ti.com/.../407118

There will be a fix in the 1.4.1 release. For now, you will need to send dummy data packets to update the RSSi.

I'll work with IAR to get 9.10.3 added to www.iar.com/.../ti-wireless
In the meantime, you can use the latest version, it should work ok.

Regarding your license question, it would be best to address that directly with IAR.

Could you elaborate on what "- Fixed White List Irregularities During Scan / Connect " means? (from the README.txt bug fixes)

I have had a problem where gapBondMgrResolvePrivateAddr took too long to look up IRKs stored in OSAL SNV. This caused connections to drop. Was this issue part of the "irregularities" or solved anywhere in 1.4.1?

The Advertising / 24-bit timer issue was addressed in 1.4.1.

The white list fixes are related to scanning while establishing connections using the white list.

I'm not aware of any changes related to gapBondMgrResolvePrivateAddr. I'll check and update the thread if there is any additional info. Are you observing this on 1.4.1?

This may be possible but is not recommended. Is there any reason you can't update IAR? Your license will still apply.

The four figure quote to upgrade and renew the support and upgrade agreement for the existing permanent license seems like a troublesome path for using existing TI hardware (EB SmartRF05 with the CC2540). I am able to upgrade through IAR only to v 8.30 as the SUA expired before the most recent IAR software release. Considering other users comments on E2E I would prefer to be cautious before continuing with IAR. I am doing chip evaluations for a new design, currently keeping hardware (BLE chipsets) and software (IAR vs. CCS) options open before commiting funds would be preferable to make informed deisgn decisions.

To upgrade IAR you have to buy "support" which is almost as much as the initial license. I am not happy about IAR or TI's decisions on the matter.

However, please understand that TI did not test the release with the older IAR version. If IDE cost is an issue, I'd like to point out that you can use CCS for free with CC2640/BLE Stack V2.0 and a TI development board incorporating XDS100v3 or XDS110.

Hi,
If a customer upgrades an already BLE certified product to our v1.4.1 stack does he need to recertify with his TCB? Will v1.4.1 still use QDID's 23454 and 26384, thanks for any clarification on this.

There is no change to the QDID for BLE 1.4.1. Actually, the QDID for host & controller subsystems was last updated for BLE 1.3.2.
