I have purchased CC2540 USB dongle. I am trying to download sniffer code in this. Am i using correct image file for downloading? C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\SmartRF Tools\Packet Sniffer\bin\general\firmware\sniffer_fw_cc2540.hex.
The program gets downloaded. It shows erase,program and verify OK also but device doesn't detect. Do i need any other driver for detecting it?

if i download C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\SmartRF Tools\Packet Sniffer\bin\general\firmware\sniffer_fw_cc2540_usb.hex image then device gets detected. I want device to work as sniffer.

Yes, you need to program the CC2540 USB dongle with "sniffer_fw_cc2540_usb.hex". Then it will work as sniffer and you can capture On-Air BLE packets.

Hi Dhaval,
Thanks for your reply. I am new to BLE technology. Can you please tell if BLE device monitor and sniffer are same things? As i know sniffer_fw_cc2540_usb.hex is for BLE device monitor and sniffer_fw_cc2540.hex is for sniffer.

Sorry Dhaval. Ya you were correct sniffer_fw_cc2540_usb.hex is for BLE sniffer.
now i got that BLE device monitor and sniffer are different.
Actually I had got confused with BLE device monitor image file. For BLE device monitor, image file is different and sniffer_fw_cc2540.hex may be for different purpose.

BLE device monitor is a Central device, using which you can connect to any peripheral device.
While BLE packet sniffer is like a 'Wireshark' for IP packets. It sniffs the BLE packets.
