CC2650 with range extender (CC2592)

When I use Z-Stack with patch from SD AE team for CC2592, the TX/RX distance is only 5 meters.

That does not sound right :-) . Have you verified that the control signals are actually toggling as expected? Have you done any conducted RF measurements?

I am pretty sure our own module is good and it is verified by Dallas. I am waiting SD team to checking what is wrong. But, it is really slow.

I finally test BLE-STACK-2 on our own CC2650+CC2592 module. The distance is pretty fair and it seems the problem is on TI Z-STACK-HOME 1.2.2.

Based on the various comments on this forum, it seems that the best option for BTLE power amplifier for CC2650 is the CC2590. My question - Can I use the same layout and passive components shown in the reference design for the CC2541_CC2590_EM but substitute the CC2650 for the CC2541 and expect similar "range" results?

Also, there have been several references to a coming reference design for 2650BTLE and power amplifier. Are there any updates regarding progress on this design?

Yes, you can do what you propose. You can also remove the 6 matching components between the CC2xxx and the CC2590, but add a place holder for a shunt component between RF-P and RF-N.

We still plan to release a reference design with CC2640 and CC2590, however we have a bit of characterization left before it is complete.

Yes, we've seen the reference designs with the Murata Balun shunt - very nice. Unfortunately these are not available. So I think we'll use the passives.

Good luck with the new CC2640/CC2590 reference design! If you add a DC-DC regulator and 16Mbits of memory, you'll really have something.

The shunt component I mentioned is a single 0402 component placed between the CC26xx and the CC2590 across RF-P and RF-N. Not the integrated balun form Murata, which is currently in mass production btw.

You can easily combine the CC2590 design with the reference design using the TPS62740 and add the external memory we are using on the SensorTag.

Any success on TI Z-STACK-HOME 1.2.2. integration with CC2650-CC2592 yet? Did you get the expected range. We are planning to implement a Zigbee sensor network using CC2650-CC2592 combination for one of our project. Any update would be very helpful on finalising weather to use CC2650 or CC2538 with C2592.

Yes, I already get expected range with Z-Stack Home 1.2.2a on my CC2650-CC2592 module. You can refer to www.ti.com/.../TIDC-CC2650-CC2592-EMK
