Hi,

I'm going to develop a custom BT 4 device based on CC2650, and I want to develop a custom dongle too, in order to be independent from commercial dongles and win OS version.

Before starting the project, I would like to know if the development and production environments are correct or there are insuperable obstacles.

I will use CCS 6.1 on windows 7 to develop.

Will I be able to receive notification in my win app, if enabled on some characteristics, using HCI on serial connection?

Yes you can do this. You can prototype this with BTool.

Hi Tim,

I have a new question.

In the production environment, if I want to use CC2650 in my usb dongle, I need to use an USB-to-UART converter (that is present on SmartRF06 with XDS100v3 UART back channel), right? What IC or solution do you suggest to use?

As an alternative, could I consider to use CC2540, which includes CDC functionality in HostTestApp project?

What do you suggest to use?

Consider that I use CCS 6.1 as dev environment.

You shouldn't be modifying the HostTestRelease firmware so I don't see how CCS comes into play here. What is the final product going to be? Do you plan on actually developing a dongle?

I think this comes down to your design decisions. CC2540 won't require a UART-to-USB converter but will be more limited in functionality then the CC2640.
