CC2640 power consumption over 450mA

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2640

My CC2640 designed with 5X5 package ,however,it spent over 450mA@3.3V while working . It seems like working ok which it can be scanned and connected .I used internal DC-DC mode.

  • 450mA@3.3V? It's not possible that CC2640 consumes such high power. I suggest you to check your peripheral circuit.
  • Hello,

I concur with YK, either there is some other component on your board drawing this much power or you have an error in your power calculation. Please use the guidance & procedure in the Measuring Bluetooth Smart Power Consumption App Note, found on the TI BLE Wiki.

    Best wishes
  • Hello,

After using internal LDO mode which I removed the line connection between DC-DC_SW pin ( pin 17) and VDDR power lines ( Pin 29 & 32) , it became normally . Did it cause my FW setting issue which I didn't set the correct internal DC--DC SW mode ?

Another issue : RF sensitivity (RX) is quite poor
My RF TX power performance is good , it is about -40dBm by using smartphone app scanned ( the distance is between 30cm or so),however , the RF sensitivity (RX) is quite poor ( -90dBm ) , the antenna matching is ok , Power noise is below 10mV . Is it any setting need to be set ?
  • Our example software is by default set up to enable the internal DC/DC which should be used to supply VDDR. DCDC_SW should be connected through a 10uH + 10uF LC filter before being connected to VDDR.
Please follow the TI reference designs closely when building your own board.
