E2E Community functionality request

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2640

Hi there,

I would like to recommend a function in the forums that allow a member to register to a threat to be notified by email if new answers appear to that threat. In the BLE forum there are many interesting threats not yet answered, but the solution is important to a lot of others not participating in that threat.

Would be lovely to have

or do I oversee something ?

Thanks

  • Hi Ralph,
I'm not sure if it's because i'm a moderator but I have a button to the right within each thread that states "Options". In that one I can set "Reply Notification" in order to subscribe to new posts. It's also possible to set bookmark.

Let me know if this does not exists for you, then I can forward the request to the E2E Team.

    Best Regards
    Joakim
  • Actually, every registered user should see button to the right within each thread that states "Options".
  • One more option to point someone to your thread(as a request to a random person )
  • Why is such a common option hidden in a drop down menu? This forum is built to be 90% white space. Its like some big design effort was made to save screen space and then it was never used.  In other popular forums like stackoverflow, reddit, or news.ycombinator, nothing is hidden in a menu and space is used efficiently.

You have much real estate to spare. There is no reason to hide the controls.

Why do you have a "more" button at the bottom of every post? How much money did TI spend to hide the "flag as spam" option? It only serves to hide things and make me click twice.

You can put useful buttons anywhere in red:

  • I think you see lots of space because your display is 1920 or larger in width. I try to forward your options to TI.
  • The side white space is always there, but they exaggerate my point. Its really common to not use them

also after inserting code, you can't write normal text after

I can hit the enter button all day and I'm still in code mode.
There's no escape other than deleting all the code I've written

Other sites format text as code when you indent with 4 spaces. Thoughts?
  • I think side blank spaces can be used to display related threads and/or notifications from other threads. But its looks much simple and nice this way and its easy to use.

  • Hi Joakim,

I could not manage to set notification for a single threat. Either the whole forum replies are notified or nothing.

It would make it so much easier to have this feature. e.g. I work with the CC2640 and I am not interested in anything CC25xx related.

    would be nice to have.

anything else is fine and most people here have other problems then moaning about an page design
    .

    Regards

    Ralph

  • I don't understand what a "threat" is. You are using that word wrong, or I don't know what it means.

Do you mean thread? You are currently subscribed to this thread because you posted in it. You can also hit this button to subscribe:

Do you want to be subscribed to anything tagged with CC2460? If so, you are going to get a lot of unproductive emails....

Thanks for the feedback. For notifications there is nothing currently to receive them for verified or suggested answers on Forum threads you didn't start. The closest thing we have for this currently is at the Forum level (example: for BLE) you can use the pull-down to filter to "Answered questions and discussions" which if left by "Date (in pull-down next to it) will show you the latest Forum threads with a verified answer. One additional way is using search with a specific full part number or partial part number and then updating the filter to "Date" and "Verified Answer" will show you the latest posts around that with verified answers.

Specific to subscribing to Forum threads or a Forum to get notifications of activity you can do that as Peter has outlined. Go to any Forum you want to subscribe to (like for BLE it would be here) and its under "Options."

One thing we are working on to make it easier to find/search through Wireless Connectivity Forums is breaking them up into their own groups. Right now all the Forums sit within the same group and so on advanced searches they can't be filtered to a specific section. So in the future if you wanted to say only search this BLE Forum there would be an option for it in the advanced search when searching. This would also help along the lines of  mentioned as currently all Wireless Forums share the same them and by us breaking them out, this will allow them the ability to have their own themes and likewise ability to have content on the sides specific only to their Forum and section.

  • Peter,

On the syntax highlighter (Insert Code) this is a 3rd party plug-in we are gated with many limitations.

For entering after inserting code it should allow and start a new paragraph HTML tag. In some cases like with your example it keeps nesting content inside a pre HTML tag. Usually when this happens I click on the HTML button and then add in text after the last tag to correct. For things like this we will continue to review/fix any CSS.

Thanks also to your other comments and feedback. Definitely hear you loud and clear. The other communities you mention are also some of my favorites and especially as you noted their ease of use and great interfaces. While E2E is on a different system and can't always replicate great features or functionality we find out there, we always strive to work to improve the experience here and usability. So any feedback we get like this is always very much appreciated!

  • Hi Blake,

regarding my request to mark a thread to get notified if there are answers to it.

The function to implement this is already there. If I open a thread I can check a box when I want to get notified when answers to this thread arrive.

This check box and its functionality just has to be offered at any thread a user is viewing while he is logged in.

To explain why this is really important, and a big help, I want to mention the threads talking about the OAD feature expected in the new BLE stack for CCS. For sure hundreds of members are waiting when this will be available.

With this function your staff would have less work answering all the question about when is it going to happen.

Think about, it should be easy to do

    Cheers

    Ralph
