A new PCB with CC2541 not connecting to the CC Debugger.

Hi, We have a brand new PCB with only one chip (CC2541) on it. We can't connect to it by using the CC Debugger even after verifying that the [GND, 3.3V, 3.3V sense, DC/DD and Reset] lines are connected just like on the Ti Sensor-tag.

Does the 32MHz Xtal / 32KHz Xtal need to be running for the CC-Debugger to make the connection?

We also have the other lines in the debug connector connected like on the TI Key-Fob sample design.

Anything else to think of?

Any other tests that can be done to know that the chip soldering is working? (Looks good...)

(The CC-Debugger works with the Ti Sensor-tag.)

Hi Eirik,

PCB was powered with 3.1V.
Yes, I have it as a .png file. See attached. U5 not used or mounted.

Hey,

The REST_N line seems to be connected to two different connectors. Is something else interfering with the reset line?
Have you measured with a multi meter to verify that you get the correct voltages on your CC2541?
Are you using an external oscillator? In that case you should follow the advice in this thread: e2e.ti.com/.../728116

You could try to remove the external oscillator to see if you can connect to the CC-debugger then.

No the internal 16 MHz RCOSC will suffice.

No, other connectors are not used.

Yes, 3.3V from GND pad to pin 27,28,29...

Only Xtal used.

Did the sch image look ok?

Could be the soldering that got to hot...hard to know...any pointers?

Did you remove the Oscillator (OSC) from Pin 22 and 23? That is an oscillator and it does not look like it is connected correctly. Do you have the data sheet for that 32 MHz oscillator?

Hi Eirik,

It is an XTAL sitting on the PCB.

The footprint is for an Oscillator but a XTAL is on the PCB, pin 1 & 3 is used in the XTAL pack.

Hey,

Only the tiresome options of replacing the chip, resolder all the components and possibly go over with a multimeter on all the pins to verify correct connectivity. Also make sure not to use to long cables for the cc-debugger connections.
