CC2564 vs CC2564MODN Performance questions

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2564MODN, CC2564

Hi,

My customer has some questions regarding the performance differences between the CC2564 and the CC2564MODN:

  1. In CC2564MODN, the EDR and BLE receiver sensitivities are reduced by 2-3 dB. Can you please provide some insight into the root cause of this reduction?
    1. Are the receiver sensitivity values found in CC2564 datasheet (not module) measured on the EVB before the front end band-pass filter or after the filter at the input of the CC2564 BT_RF PIN? I am asking to try and figure out why the CC2564MODN has reduced sensitivity.
  2.  The carrier frequency stability on the CC2564MODN is degraded (per the datasheet) from +/- 5 KHz (on the CC2564) to +/- 10 KHz. With Bluetooth specification requiring <= 10 KHz, have you experienced any field issues with CC2564MODN regulatory certification relating this this? Again, any insight into this performance reduction would help?
  3. Similarly, the adjacent channel power ratio is also degraded by 3-6 dB on the CC2564MODN. Is this attributed to the performance difference between the band-pass filter implementation in the CC2564MODN and the Murata LFB212G45SG8C341 on the CC2564 EVB?
  4. The maximum usable input power is reduced by 5 dBm on the CC2564MODN. Again, any insights would be helpful.

Thanks,

Josh

  • Josh,

There is a difference in the numbers given that they are measured at different points. The CC2564 numbers are provided at the IC RF pin where the CC2564MODN are given with respect to the BT_ANT pin on the module (IC_RF + BPF + RF PCB trace). Therefore, there are some losses that need to be taken into account (BPF + RF PCB trace).

Regarding the carrier frequency stability, the CC2564MODN spec is more relaxed given its XTAL specs and extended temperature range.
