Hi,

I am having an XDS110 Rev 1.2 debugger purchased along with the cc2650 sensor tag and a smartRF06 EVB with 7ID,5XD,4XS packages of cc2650. I am trying to flash the CC2650-7ID plugged on to the SmartRF06 EVB using XDS110 debugger. As per the smartRF06 user guide, for connecting an external debugger,

removed the P408 (XDS100V3 bypass headers)
inserted the current measurement jumper P503
Connected the XDS110 debugger to the P410 10pin arm cortex header
In the simple BLE peripheral project, under the debugger options , chose debugger as TI XDS110

When the download button is clicked, the following message pops up

Is there any other configuration that needs to be done? I cross checked the 10 pin header in XDS debugger and SmartRF06 EVB. Even though VDD is not there in the debugger header, EVB is getting powered as the POWER leds are ON.

Please let me know what I am doing wrong. We are planning to use the XDS110 debugger for the custom board being developed using CC2650 5XD and 4XS packages.

Why do you connect SmartRF06 EVB to XDS110 debugger? You should connect XDS110 to CC2650STK or connect SmartRF06 to CC2650STK.

Hi,

I am trying to flash smartRF06 EVB using an external debugger. The debugger of choice is XDS110 as Segger Jlink didn't work out.
As per the tools forum, XDS110 is supported by CC26XX family. So I am hoping that, XDS110 can be used to flash the EVB.

For the final custom board we are developing, we are planning to use XDS110 debugger as it is available for 20USD. Right now, I am evaluating is it possible to flash the CC2650 modules using XDS110 which is used for sensor tag.

Isn't that possible?
Is my understanding wrong? If yes, please clarify

You want to program CC2650 or SmartRF06EB by XDS110?

Hi,

The smartRF06EVB holds the CC2650-7ID module. I am trying to flash the CC2650 module mounted on the smartRF06 EVB as of now. Later on I am planning to use the XDS110 debugger for flashing the CC2650 module connected to a custom micro controller

Hi Alex,

What you try to do is possible, but not really recommended. The DevPack Debug is designed to program the SensorTag only, and not be used as a general purpose debugger/programmer.

If you go to the top of the forum there is a sticky thread about the DevPack Debug being out of stock. In this thread there are links to alternative debuggers, including low cost models. We will also soon (January) release CC2650 LaunchPads. These will include XDS110 debuggers with the capability of debugging external targets.

Now, to your specific problem. It seems like your setup is mostly correct, however the way you have connected the 10-pin ribbon cable to the DevPack Debug is not. I guess you have just used a 10 pin male header as an adapter, right? In that case the signals will be mirrored (1 and 2 will be swapped, 3 and 4, etc.). I will leave how to resolve this as an exercise for you.

There is a 10-pin ARM Cortex Debug Connector at the right-buttom corner of SmartRF06 which you can connect it with your CC2650.

So, I should connect to CC2650 directly instead of SmartRF06?
Is it possible to flash CC2650 from external XDS110 through SmartRF06?

Hi Chen,

I'm try to flash SmartRF06+CC2650EM from external debugger which is XDS110 on MSP432 LaunchPad.
According to chapter 7 in the CC26xx_EVB_user_guide, it's possible to flash EM from external debugger.
And reference to e2e.ti.com/.../412248, all I need to do is remove all the jumpers of p408 and then connect 10-pin ARM Cortex debugger to external debugger.

However, it didn't work at all.
Maybe you know the correct way to implement it and please share with me.

Hi Wei Lu,

The photo you posted yesterday with the MSP432 Launchpad looks correct. The only thing I can think of is that your target device (the CC2650EM) might not be powered. Did you check?

I can use LAUNCHXL-CC2650 XDS110 to program SmartRF06+CC2650EM but cannot use XDS110 on MSP432 LaunchPad.

I find I cannot use XDS110 on MSP432 LaunchPad rev.1.0 to program SmartRF06+CC2650EM but MSP432 LaunchPad rev.2.0 can program SmartRF06+CC2650EM.

I see no problem on your connection. What do you mount on SmartRF06? CC2650EMK? Can you take a picture on it?

I mount custom CC2650 5XD EM board on the SmartRF06,
now I mount original CC2650 7ID EM and it didn't work either.
Should I offer power for SmartRF06 though I enable XDS110 PowerOut through 10-pin Cortex?

No. The one cannot work is XDS110-ET Rev 1.0. Yours looks fine.

Yes, I can flash EM board by XDS100v3 on SmartRF06.
It's so strange that you can do it but I can't with same devices.

Hi,

I used XDS110 on CC2650 sensor tag to program CC2650-7ID as well as custom boards. It was not working before as I inverted the connections.
