CC2650 Custom design Antenna tuning

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2650

I have created a custom pcb with cc2650 5X5 package

for rf side i used the sensor tag 2 design

i worte an ibeacon firmware for it too

now the problem is that my design is not transmitting packets after 2 or 3 meters

packets received is zero

while i put the same firmware of mine in sensor tag2 and it keeps transmitting packets even on 30 to 40 meters

what should be the problem

i used the same pcb layout and antenna as used in sensor tag 2

but still i couldn't get good performance in my own tag pcb

it is an antenna matching problem?

i can also attach pcb gerber files or layout files on request

kindly assist me as i am new in rf pcb design

keeping in mind i dont have a network analyser to tune antenna

  • Please have a look at the following wiki:

  • And also have a look at the other resources listed under "Design Resources" at the parent page: ti.com/ble-wiki
  • hi thanks for the reply
i saw the link you have given
basically i want to request a review to my schematic and layout
  • we can look at it, but you really need to follow the steps in the guide we referred to. And do some more steps to identify if this is the HW or SW. Have you measured the output power, sensitivity, currents, etc to see if they are as expected? Have you tried controlling your boards using SmartRF studio?
  • Thanks for prompt response.

Previously I was using nrf chip and nrf team helped in antenna tuning by physically PCB testing, and after that it was working fine but now I am thinking to move all designs to TI chip, so in first place I changed my first PCB on TI by following all steps mentioned in guide but I am facing some RSSI issues in TI PCB design , I'd appreciate if you can help me in antenna tuning, I can send you my pcb & design file

Please provide your official email address so that i can send you design files of the layout.

  • as stated in my previous response, we can have a look at your design. If you do not want to post them here on the forum, send me a friend request and we can do the review in private messages. Please provide gerbers for the layout and a pdf for the schematic. Have you done all the measurements steps given in the wiki we provided earlier? Have you tried using SmartRF studio? Have you changed to the 5x5 and frontend choice of your design in your SW (default is 7x7 and internal bias and a differential config)? We really need some more inputs from you as well to be able to find the source of the poor range as quick as possible.
