sniffer RSSI reading

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2540

I use Sniffer CC2540 usb dongle to monitor BLE coexistence. I have one question about the RSSI reading.

once a while I will get a corrupted packet, see the picture bellow, the RSSI reading will be much lower than a normal value.

from the transmitter and receiver point of  view. nothing changed. how could the signal strength suddenly drop more than 20 dB?

the test is not in a shield environment, is it possible the interference from the air cause the RSSI reading drop.

how the interference for example from Wifi affect the RSSI reading?

Sincerely,

David

  • Hi David,

What the sniffer is doing is simply reading the RSSI value of the connected device that is sniffing the connection. Though nothing changed, there could have been an interference source that croppoed up during the transmission of this packet that severely degraded the sniffer's ability to decode the packet. This is re-enforced by the fact that the FCS is incorrect.

In short, yes it likely that strong wi-fi inference was present during the time the packet was sent which corrupted its original contents.
  • Hi Sean,

one more question, is there a way to export Sniffer file to excel format, it is more convenient to search or sort in excel.

    thanks,

    David
