Power analysis request for cc2640 at different power settings

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2640

As per our last ocnversation with , He recommend me some hardware changes we followed those recomendations in one of our new design and the hardware test results were optimum therefore we sent that design to production and we are already producing 9000 tags in less than a month with TI cc2640 chip

The purpose of this email is power analysis of the hardware, I wrote a firmware for that hardware (ibeacon) and now i want to analyse the power to calculate the battery life

we have a tektronix  mdo3012  oscilloscope and u-current gold for current measurement i followed the TI power measurement guide for cc26xx but we dont have the same equipment available

The equipment we have is not very high end therefore we have a lot of noise in the wave form and average current or energy could not be concluded

we have implimented a columb counter in the firmware and we need average current at different power levels for one advertising interval

average current at 4 db , 0db , -3db , -9 db , -12 db , -15 db , -18 db and -21 db

i am also attaching the wave form screens

i will also attach the hex file for the firmware on demand

please kindly reply me asap

first screen is non connectable adv and second screen is connectable adv

  • Hello Mohammad,

    Really great to see that you are in production!

    Although we can't do power measurements for your board, I can suggest that you refer to the BLE power calculator at www.ti.com/ble-power-calculator for estimates. As you can see with the tool, the avg current from 0dBm to -20dBm is only ~10uA difference for a 100ms connectable ADV interval.

    Best wishes
  • Hello

    Thanks for your prompt response.

    As suggested, I checked your tool, I have following question/comments

    1- We are using ER14505 Battery Pack (4800mAh, 3.7 volts) , but there are no option of selecting 4800 mAh & 3.7V

    2- We used 1.5uA sleep current in our calculation, but I didn't see any current information in that tool.

    3-  There is no option of selecting other power levels ( 4dB, -3dBM, -9dBM, -12dBM, -15dBM, -18dBM)

    Following are the details of our Application;

    1- Battery rating (mAh): 4800mAh
    2- Discharge depth:  100%
    3- Self discharge per year: 5%

    4- Time consumed in one Packet transfer time (see Note 1): 6.12 msec
    5- Instantaneous current during one Packet transmission: 1.72 mA (Calculated from Oscilloscope)
    6- Transmission Interval: 200 msecs
    7- Average current: 0.081529 mA

    From above results we are getting following battery Life;
    Battery Life (Days): 2453.11
    Battery Life (Months): 80.7
    Battery Life (Years): 6.8

    Can you please verify this, before we were using Nordic chip (nrf51822) and they provide all information and also verified our Battery life calculation now we have shifted to TI and battery life is an essential feature, therefore you are requested to provide help in this matter.

    Looking forward for your positive response.
