СС2564B RF tru via issue

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2564

Is it possible to route the Bluetooth RF path thru the via from top layer to the bottom? Capacitor, filter, antena matching circuit are on the bottom layer. Antenna is on the top layer (so, +1 via). Bluetooth RF trace is 50-Ω.

We' ve got a measurement that from a device with 1 dbm transmision power RSSI is -5...-6 dbm. Device is connected to the UFL connector. Feeder path in the measurement includes cable (0.5 db loss), filter (1.5-2 db loss), capacitor two vias between top and bottom layer. Can СС2564B  measure more than -5 dbm. We have expected with our feeder path RSSI -3 dbm.

  • Hello Dmytro,

RF traces should NOT be routed using vias. It is highly recommended to keep RF trace, all matching components and antenna on the same layer. If routed using vias, loss in signal level is expected since the impedance changes when the signal travels through the via and any discontinuity in impedance will result in signal loss. The magnitude of loss is dependant on the via structure. Routing RF trough vias should be avoided.

    Regards,

  • And what about RSSI? Can we get RSSI more than -5 dbm or -5 dbm is maximum value?

Are  RSSI data preprocessed in CC2564? We receive RSSI information without synchronization with packet transmission (transmission period 500 ms) and aperiodically.
