RSSI calculation for BLE

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2640

HI I am trying to understand how the RSSI value is calculated for a BLE chip.

What part of the BLE packet is used to calculate the power level associated to RSSI?

Is the RSSI value used for the AGC training?

Thank you

  • Hello Maxwell,

Which chip are you referring to? The BT specification doesn't not specify how the RSSI is calculated within the packet other than an indication of the signal strength at the antenna with an accuracy of +/- 6dB. Given the (relative) short transmit time, the value can be considered an average of the packet.

    Best wishes
  • Hi JXS,

Thank you for your answer. I am referring to CC2640. What do you exactly mean with "average of the packet"? The power calculation is done over the entire packet size? Does this imply that different paylod size will retaurn different RSSI values?

    Thank you.
