Using a CC256x Bluetooth module (PAN1326B CC2564B+BLE) on Android Jellybean (4.2.2). Using the Bluedroid stack. Currently the TI shared transport driver loads the firmware/service pack.

Is it possible to adjust the Bluetooth TX power level after the firmware has been loaded (any time while in use)?

If so, is it possible to do so without the use of hci* bluez tools (not available in bluedroid)? Is it possible to load commands directly to /dev/hci_tty? I have the Windows tool HCITester which should allow me to construct custom bts files, if that helps.

What commands (HCI or otherwise) should be used to adjust the TX power?

I have since tried modifying the service pack bts file to include Send_HCI_VS_DRPb_Set_Power_Vector as a test, but despite generating the command using the tool from its command library it comes up with an error when I go to save it (Cannot convert from HCI script to BTS).

Hi Casey,

Yes, it is possible to send the Vendor Specific Commands to the CC256x to change the TX power (power vector) of a modulation type. You can find the details with example here.

There is no problem changing the TX power after initialization as long as the internal calibration command is issued as mentioned in the example above.

I am not familiar with any bluedroid or /dev/hci_tty method for passing vendor specific commands. As a suggestion, if you know what power level you want, you can add the above commands in the bts itself. Hope this helps.

Yes, I have tried the example above, but the HCI Tester utility rejects those commands.

I am using HCI Tester 3.0.0.37.

Even trying to save the first line of that example:

Send_HCI_VS_DRPb_Set_Power_Vector 0xFD82, 0x00, 0x9c, 0x18, 0xd2, 0xd2, 0xd2, 0xd2, 0xd2, 0xd2, 0xd2, 0xdc, 0xe6, 0xf0, 0xfa, 0x04, 0x0e, 0x18, 0xff, 0x0000

as an addition to the initscripts-TIInit_6.7.16_bt_spec_4.1.bts file, results in an error:

"Failed to convert HCI-Script to BTS file".

It saves fine when I comment out Send_HCI_VS_DRPb_Set_Power_Vector lines.

Thanks, that worked. I did not realize there was a command definition xml in the service pack package.
