Brown out detect action in CC2640

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2640

Hi guys,

I am using cc2640 in my design. and i have some questions regarding use of Brown Out Detect feature available in the device.

1) Will Brown Out detect feature will help me to detect Power supply rail shorting?

2) What time of reset will be generated on brown out detection?

3) Can the device resume  from where it stopped before brown out reset?

4)what could happen to my devie if brown out detection is disabled and the power supply given to the CC2640 is shorted?

The reason why i am asking such questions is  that due to mechanical of  my device the VDDS supply rail is shorting and the device is getting hanged.

My assumption is that the device should start working once the shorting is removed.

And i have observed that cc2640 is holding the supply low(i.e.  at 1.8V in case of  3V VDDS supply).

And on pulling the reset low, it again starts working and VDDS goes back to nominal value.

Can anybody help me out here?

  • Hi,

    1. If your supply is shorted to the ground the CC26xx is not going to start up, then nothing will work.
    2. Do you mean what type of reset? When vDDS is too low and trigger BOD, then it will be a system reset.
    3. No.
    4. You can't disable BOD.

Device is not support to work when your VDDS is shorting.

  • Hi Christin,

    I still have few doubts.

Let me  tell you  the  scenario,

I am giving 3V as VDDS to cc2640 and  then i intentionally short that 3V with ground using jumper wire.Due to that shorting the device stops working, that is understood. But what would be the state of the device if after i remove the shorting, will it be working again?

My observations are, sometime the device resets and start working and sometimes it is hung-up. I aslo have seen that the supply rail of 3V has been held at 1.8V by cc2640.

And we can ignore the Brown Out Detection, configuring the RESETCTL register. I am wondering if  ignoring the Brown Out Detect will make any difference in such shorting issues.
