Hello,

I've built two boards with the Bluetooth Low Energy (Bluetooth Smart) to RS-485 Gateway. They work, but I would like to use a smartphone to see the data (the smartphone should act as a central).

What software (app) should I use? Because in the corresponding webpage you speak about the ModbusController app, but I haven't seen it anywhere.

Also, what version of Bluetooth is needed in the smartphone? 4.1 and above?

Hi Mattia,

There's plenty of Apps out there that act as GATT clients - eg, BLE Scanner for Android or Light Blue for IOS. (Or our sensortag app on both platforms.)

In terms of version of bluetooth on your phone - 4.1 and above should be fine.

I tried BLE Scanner and SensorTag, but, even if they can connect, I can't send any Modbus command. What should I do to have a transparent Modbus communication between my smartphone and my Modbus device?

Mattia,

BLE Scanner just acts as GATT client to the BLE Gateway - you should see which Services and Characteristics there are.

If you want to send commands from your phone - you'll have to manually perform the actions to implement the custom ModBus GATT service that is described in the design guide for TIDC-BLUETOOTH-SMART-TO-RS-485-GATEWAY. There are some applications that can help with quickly creating an app, such as EvoThings, for example.
