CC2640 - How to Implement Over the Air Download for using TI SensorTag app

Can you please provide documentation on how OAD could be done using the TI SensorTag app: See link to app here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ti-sensortag/id552918064?mt=8 for iPhone and iPad. Please provide specific documentation on the firmware side so we can update our sensor to be compatible with iPhone/iPad TI App for OAD?

Please see screenshot attached as it shows that it is possible using CC26xx.

Hi Andrew,

Please see the OAD User's Guide provided with the SDK. Specifically, assuming you are attempting to do off-chip OAD, please follow the steps in section 8.4. This will enable your peripheral device for OAD, including for a mobile device.

It seems on-chip OAD is possible using the TI SensorTag app for the new BLE stack. I found a similar forum here: https://e2e.ti.com/support/wireless_connectivity/bluetooth_low_energy/f/538/p/532045/1938936#1938936.

Can you please investigate how OAD can be done for on-chip using the TI SensorTag app? Also, I do not see section 8.4 in the lastest BLE Stack documentation: www.ti.com/.../swru393d.pdf

Hi Andrew,

Nathan called out the OAD user guide. The document you linked is the stack user guide.

The OAD user guide can be found in the install directory of the BLE stack. For a default install this would be C:\ti\simplelink\ble_sdk_2_02_00_31\docs

The OAD User's Guide is a separate document from the Software Developer's Guide. It is provided with the SDK. Section 8 covers off-chip OAD, and section 9 covers on-chip OAD.

Have you tried doing OAD to your device with BLE Device Monitor as described in the User's Guide to see if the issue is your application? Also I would recommend using only 1 packet per notification and connection interval of 20 ms.

Hi,

If you were able to do OAD successfully with BLE Device Monitor, then your issue is not with the target device. Did you use the python script described in the OAD User's Guide to modify the image header? If not, BLE Device Monitor would have done it for you, but the iPhone app may not have.
