Hello,

I'm making a device with CC2640 and 2 sensors onboard a custom PCB. I want to fetch the data sent over BLE on a windows or maybe a linux system, Can I do that using the inbuilt bluetooth of laptop? Since it's a BLE device so am not sure whether it's possible.

I'm hoping it's possible without any extra dongle after reading this article: msdn.microsoft.com/.../jj159880(v=vs.85).aspx

Can anyone tell if it's possible or would I need to use any extra dongle like ones from bluegiga?

If not then is the same possible using cc2650 using IEEE 802.15.4 ?

I would suggest you connect CC2541EMK to your desktop and run Btool to communicate with CC2640 BLE devices. You can try to refer to processors.wiki.ti.com/.../LPRF_BLE_Simple_Application and www.ti.com/.../swru270c.pdf

I'm working on a very similar application at my company.

Windows 10 seems to have a reasonable API for communicating with BLE devices using custom profiles. (But I have not used it). Some answers on StackOverflow said that the Windows 8 API doesn't allow custom profiles.

Unfortunately, I had to develop my application on Windows 7 (company standard), so I could not use the computer's BLE radio. I decided on using the BlueGiga BLED112 dongle. It's working pretty well for us so far, but has a few limitations like only being able to scan while connected, and the connection strength seems slightly weaker than expected.

No question from me; I was just trying to add details to the thread with regard to which versions of Windows would natively support BLE.

I see. But BlueGiga BLED112 dongle is not based on TI BLE chip, right?
