replace CC2650 with CC1310

For the TI sensor design http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/tidu797d/tidu797d.pdf - we want to CC2650 with CC1310 to use sub-1G radio..

Can the CC2650 can be replaced by CC1310. Are they pin-to-pin compatible.

The only other thing we need to change is the antenna, which needs to support sub-1GHz.

Please confirm the above.

Hello Tony,

Yes that's correct, they are pin compatible. In addition to changing the antenna, you'll also need to account for software differences. (eg, if you plan on using another stack, keep it's size in mind so your application is appropriately sized)

Thanks Rebel and YK for your inputs. I was able to find the TIDA-00484 reference design after I post the initial question. To follow up on the same subject, do you know if there is a reference design for a sub-GHz to WiFi bridge? I do see one for BLE to WiFi gateway, TIDC-BLE-TO-WIFI-IOT-GATEWAY. I'd like to do the same for sub-GHz. Thanks, Tony

Hi Tony,

One note on the pin compatibility. For the 7x7 package, this is not really true as the CC1310 has the RXTX RF pin and the CC2650 does not. Also, you need to change the RF components to account for the different frequencies. I would recommend following the applicable reference designs for each.

For sub-1 GHz you can use the CC1350 SensorTag instead.

There is no reference design for sub-1 to wifi gateway. You can follow the instructions here: processors.wiki.ti.com/.../Boosterpack_approach and use a CC1310EM board instead of the CC2650EM.
