CC2650STK: Alternative higher capacity battery to CR2032

Part Number: CC2650STK

I would like to use a higher capacity battery instead of the CR2032 (which is 225 mAh) with my TI sensor tag. One option I was considering is the CR2450, which is ~600 mAh, 4mm wider and 1.8mm higher, and so perhaps it is possible to solder a CR2450 battery holder onto the sensortag instead of the existing CR2032 holder.

However it looks like the max current drawn by CR2450 is limited to 3 mA, which would be insufficient for the watch devpack and flash erase operation. Are there any alternative higher capacity coin cell batteries of similar dimensions which provide a higher current draw? I am using the sensor tag + watch devpack to be worn on the user's wrist as a watch, and so attaching 2 AAA batteries like in the thread below would not be very suitable, and in any case it appears the AAA battery devpack case mentioned in the thread below is not available for purchase.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks!

  • Hello Mobashir,
I am not familiar with the CR2450, but where does is the maximum current stated? I did a quick search and could not find any max current limitations. High current pulses can off course affect battery lifetime, but that also applies to the CR2032.

As stated in the thread you can buy a basic battery holder at any hobby electronics dealer and solder on the power line connections. There is no ST battery pack option from TI.
