CC2540: CC2540 Maximum RSSI Value

Part Number: CC2540

With my CC2540 device I can't get an RSSI value higher than -41.  If I connect a device to it and start reading the RSSI constantly it seems to saturate at -42 within about a foot and will occasionally jump up to -41 but not any higher.  With other BLE devices I have I'm able to get values in the negative teens when the devices are right on top of each other (and the values keep changing as I get closer within a foot).  Is anyone else seeing this behavior or are you able to get higher values?

  • Hi J.Sample,

I definitely see this behavior, and I believe it's completely dependent on your antenna and your RF configuration. (On both ends)

For example, on the launchpad's pcb antenna I get close to teens. I've contacted a hardware expert, in case I missed anything.

You could bump up the transmit power if you like, by default many of our devices sit at 0dBm

    Regards,
    Rebel
  • Hi J,

For CC2540 this is expected. Please refer to the datasheet section for RSSI.

    Cheers,
