does TI have a BlueTooth "serial port" like the WT12 from bluegiga?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F47177, CC2564, CC2640

I'm looking for a smaller BT radio to replace my WT12 (classic BT with builtin SPP).

does TI have a BT serial port like the WT12 that I can add to my MSP430F47177 project (without the bluetopia blot)?  I do not have the RAM bluetopia requires and it's flash requerments of over 100KB  will make my project so big that I can no longer support OTA.  I have only looked at the CC2564MOD..so far.

If the CC2564 can not be used, does TI have a different (certified) Bluetooth radio?

  • CC2564 is only a BT controller, the SSP profile has to run on the host.. You may want to consider selecting a MSP device with more memory..
  • other than this BT swap, redesign is not an option. do you know of any other BT modules that could work?
TI has a MSP with built in BT. Does anyone know it anyone marketed one of these as a certified BT module
  • PS: it needs to support the latest 4.0 SSP (security)
  • Hello Marty,

The CC256X family as answered above by Hari is only a controller with up to HCI layer so there is no upper protocol stack capabilities.

Please check the CC2640 family - i'm not sure it has the capabilities you require however that's the only option i can think about that might have what you are looking for.

  • my hopes were that someone has taken on of the BT radio options TI offers and made that into a module.  I think I saw a MSP with the radio built into it that would have worked nicely for this.  than offer a simple interface so all MSPs could have a wireless radio as long as they have an UART. sounds like a simple school project + FCC cert.

Panasonic may have done just that.  I'm getting some of their modules to test.  it's hard to filter out all of the BLE stuff out from the classic SPP.  Markers and web page designers don't know the difference and just call their devices Bluetooth 4.0.  I guess thy think 4.x = BLe only and do not know 4.x = Classic, BLE, and wide band.   forget digikey,  they spit out some 300+ options of which BLE is the majority and UN-filterable.

I was hoping I could get some leads on some other modules here.
