LAUNCHXL-CC2640R2: Program storage allocation at Internal Flash and External Flash

Hi,

I would like to confirm how the Program storage is allocated if you have CC2640R2F + External Flash based design. For example you have a Application Program with size of 256KB, your CC2640R2F has 128KB, and have 1MB External Flash. How will be the BIM + App + Stack be allocated to Internal Flash and External Flash. Would the BIM + App + Stack be distributed at CC2640R2F Internal Flash and 1MB External Flash or not?

Hi Christin,

I have read the OAD guide, and it does not answer my question. Here is the diagram from the guide. The CC2640R2F has 128KB of in system programmable flash, What if my image that consist of BIM+App+Stack exceeds the 128 KB. Lets say the total program size is 256KB. So, 128KB will fit at CC2640R2F 128KB in system programmable flash. Where does the other 128KB go?

The whole image still has to be with 128K. We don't have support for separating the image and execute from both internal and external flash.

Same question for CC2650 which has 128KB of In-System Programmable Flash. How does these 3 hex files fit in the CC2650 which has 128KB of In-System Programmable Flash?

1. bim_extflash.hex 15KB
2. sensortag_cc2650lp_app.hex 115KB
3. sensortag_cc2650lp_stack.hex 145KB

No, idea. I did not do anything to it except enable Hex File Generation. This is the example program you recommend to correct the optimization settings. It works with my CC2650 Launchpad + Educational BoosterPack MKII. This example program I am trying to port to CC2640R2 Launchpad. I am using CCSV7.

Please, clarify.

Sorry for answering too quick. You need to check the map file to see flash usage? As long as the sum of the flash is under 128K, then you are good to go.

The file size can't give you the correct flash usage information. You need to check map file. Also if your code is too big, you will hit linker error.

I forgot about the map file. I checked the map file for BIM, App, and Stack CCS Projects. I sum the "FLASH used" for all CCS Projects and total is 116619 which is below 128KB. So, I guess a application like the sensortag running at CC2650 Launchpad is the base reference for product development. If your application functions more than what the sensortag does, then it is not recommended to use CC2650 or CC2640R2.
