CC2640R2F: Upgrading the Bluetooth stack, memory requirements for ODA

Part Number: CC2640R2F
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2640

Hi,

We are developing a product using the CC2640R2F chip at the moment and we have come across a question we haven't found the answer to yet.

To upgrade the bluetooth stack to Bluetooth 5 at a later stage using ODA, it is stated in the CC2640 ODA user guide that we need to have en external flash memory chip to be able to do this.

Is this relevant for the CC2640R2F chip as well? This chip have 275KB non-volative memory. Is it only the size of the non-volatile memory that is the issue here, or is there another reason why there is a need for an external Flash chip(via SPI) for the bootloader to read?

Thanks in advance
