CCS/CC2564MODN: Connecting to an Android Application (BLE) as a Server and Central using SPPLEDemo

Part Number: CC2564MODN

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hi everybody,

i'm currently running a slightly modifyed version of the SPPLEDemo on my MSP430. I'd like the device to act as a server and central and initiate a connection to an Android App (acting as client and peripheral). Has anybody of you any experience with that? I get the response that the connection request was successful ("Connection Request successful.") but I'm not getting the message "etLE_Connection_Complete with size XY". I have the impression that there's no connection established since my App seems to continue advertising.

What I did: I registered the device as Server and called "RegisterSPPLE" afterwards. Then I started scanning to scan for the device, as soon as I found it, I stopped scanning and called ConnectLE [BD_ADDR]. After that I get "Connection Request successful." as a feedback as mentioned beforehand. I also took a look at the Debug Output using the TI Logger (http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/CC256x_Logger_User_Guide) and it claims the Connection Creation to be successful.  Nevertheless, I don't have the impression that I am actually connected. What could I be missing here?

Thanks in advance

Pascale

  • Hi,

Can you share the logger file you captured?

Are you sure that you are able to configure android to be peripheral. The peripheral advertises and the central performs the scan. Android phones/tablets usually do not act as peripheral and are not able to advertise (BLE). If you can share the debug logs with the logger file, we can take a look.

    Best regards,
    Vihang
  • Android TI Connection Request.zipWhat I've read was, that it wasn't possible using Android 4.3, but currently I'm running Android 6.0.1. It is possible to advertise using a Samsung Tablet A and a Nexus 9, it also allows you to register a GattServer, which isn't my intention even though since I want to act is as a Client. So, im not 100% sure.

EDIT: Yes, it actually can act as a peripheral:

"Android 4.3 introduced platform support for Bluetooth Low Energy (Bluetooth LE) in the central role. In Android 5.0, an Android device can now act as a Bluetooth LE peripheral device. Apps can use this capability to make their presence known to nearby devices. For instance, you can build apps that allow a device to function as a pedometer or health monitor and communicate its data with another Bluetooth LE device."
