RTOS/CC2640: possible bricked CC2640 - best way to recover

Hi,

In trying to get a custom boot loader to work I'vemanaged to make my CC2640 unresponsive to unloading new firmware.

Here's the error I get from within CC studio:

Cortex_M3_0: Error occurred during flash operation: Timed out waiting for target to halt

Cortex_M3_0: Trouble Halting Target CPU: (Error -2062 @ 0x0) Unable to halt device. Reset the device, and retry the operation. If error persists, confirm configuration, power-cycle the board, and/or try more reliable JTAG settings (e.g. lower TCLK). (Emulation package 6.0.407.3)

Another device works fine so I know it not the setup, usb cord, programmer etc etc.

I tried the SmartFR Flash Programmer 2 from inside Parallels on OSX to do a "forced mass erase" but it also errors.

What's the best way to recover from this? I'm using a XDS110 programmer.

Hello Justin,

If you have changed the CCFG block (last 84 bytes of flash in page 31) to disable JTAG functions, then you cannot erase the device.
Can you post the last hex file you programmed to the device?

Hi,

Sorry I didn't keep the hex file but I it would of been possible I overwrote page 31 in memory. Is there any way to recover from this?

FYI, I had a similar issue with the CC2640R2F and the XDS100v3 debugger in which two of my devices would seemingly get "bricked" (I could not connect via Flash Programmer 2) after I attempted to flash it with a custom bootloader.

I was able to "unbrick" both devices by connecting SRST_N from the XDS100v3 board to RESET_N on the CC2640R2F board as suggested here: https://e2e.ti.com/support/wireless_connectivity/bluetooth_low_energy/f/538/p/410451/1457549#1457549

It seems that by erasing the flash you can get the device into a state in which 2-wire cJTAG will not response unless the device can be held in reset by the debugger.
